Matters of the Heart: Health, Love, and Connection

February is a month centered on love, reflection, and connection. At Sorogi Health, we also use this time to focus on the heart as the foundation of overall health. Your heart works tirelessly to support every breath, every movement, and every moment of your life. Caring for it means honoring your body, your well-being, and the relationships that matter most.

Whether you are managing hypertension, diabetes, or working toward healthier habits, heart health is more than numbers. It is about consistency, awareness, nourishment, movement, and meaningful connection. This month invites us to slow down, check in with ourselves, and choose habits that support both physical and emotional well-being.

January Highlights: Building Strong Foundations

January marked an energizing start to the year with a focus on skills, education, and confidence.

We kicked off Tawana’s Corner with a Kitchen Basics & Knife Skills class, introducing essential techniques that help make cooking feel safer, simpler, and more enjoyable. This session emphasized building confidence in the kitchen while laying the groundwork for heart-supportive and blood sugar–friendly meals.

Registered Dietitian Andrea led a Grocery Store Tour and a Meal Planning for Beginners class, guiding participants through practical strategies for selecting nourishing foods, reading labels, and planning meals that support heart health and balanced blood sugar.

Meet Coach Cole

We also welcomed Coach Cole, who successfully led his first fitness class with Sorogi Health.

We also welcomed Coach Cole, who successfully led his first fitness class with Sorogi Health. His session focused on strength, confidence, and consistency, creating a supportive and motivating space for movement. His programming is tailored to encourage greater participation among men while remaining open and accessible to everyone.

Women’s Health Webinar Spotlight

On Saturday, January 24th, we were honored to welcome Dr. Val Tagwira, Specialist Obstetrician and Gynecologist, for a live Women’s Health Webinar focused on understanding women’s health across the life journey. This session explored key physical, hormonal, and emotional changes women experience from adolescence through menopause, while emphasizing the role of prevention, nutrition, lifestyle habits, and early care in lifelong wellness. Dr. Val highlighted how proactive health decisions made today can reduce the risk of chronic disease later in life, and she encouraged participants to view routine screenings and self-awareness as powerful tools for long-term well-being. Attendees were reminded of the importance of listening to their bodies, advocating for their needs in healthcare settings, and recognizing preventive care as an essential act of self-respect and self-love at every stage of life.

Now Streaming: Women’s Health Podcast with Dr. Val

We are also excited to share that the Sorogi Health podcast episode featuring Dr. Val will be released on January 30. In this episode of Your Health Matters, Dr. Vivian Ayuk speaks with Dr. Val about the importance of women’s health and the growing role of wellness coaching in helping women prioritize their well-being.

Their conversation dives into how women often place their health last while balancing careers, caregiving, and daily responsibilities, and how intentional lifestyle choices can help prevent chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and hormonal imbalances. Dr. Val emphasizes the value of personalized wellness approaches tailored to different stages of a woman’s life, the impact of nutrition and movement, and the importance of building a supportive healthcare team.

The discussion also addresses common myths surrounding women’s health, the connection between women’s wellness and overall family health, and how women can feel empowered to speak up, ask questions, and take ownership of their care. This inspiring and informative conversation reinforces that it is never too early or too late to begin a wellness journey.
