April Theme: Wellness in Motion: Honoring Women’s Strength & Community

“Stronger Every Day, together.”

Honoring Strength: National African American Women’s Fitness Month

April is a powerful time to center wellness, movement, and community as we recognize National African American Women’s Fitness Month. At Sorogi Health, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and impact of Black women in prioritizing their health and uplifting families and communities.

Black women continue to lead in caregiving, advocacy, and community building – yet they often face disproportionate barriers to health resources, safe spaces for movement, and culturally relevant nutrition education. This month is an opportunity to shift that narrative by creating spaces that support sustainable, realistic wellness.

Throughout April, we will also explore the connection between diabetes and our relationship with food. Food is more than fuel; it represents culture, comfort, celebration, and community. However, navigating nutrition can become challenging when balancing tradition, affordability, time constraints, and chronic disease prevention.

By discussing diabetes and food relationships, we aim to:

  • Reduce stigma around dietary changes

  • Highlight culturally inclusive nutrition approaches

  • Encourage mindful eating without restriction

  • Provide practical strategies for blood sugar balance

  • Empower individuals to make informed choices without losing cultural identity

This month is about showing up for your body in ways that feel sustainable, supportive, and empowering. Whether through movement, nutrition, or connection, every step forward matters.

MARCH HIGHLIGHTS: MOVEMENT, COMMUNITY & MOMENTUM

Spring Into Health: In-Person Event with Coach Manny

On March 14th, the Sorogi community came together at Francis Gregory Library for an energizing and impactful in-person fitness experience with Coach Manny.

Participants engaged in a low-impact cardio and strength workout designed for all levels, while also learning practical ways to build sustainable fitness habits. The session emphasized consistency, confidence, and community support, leaving attendees feeling motivated, recharged, and connected.

Beyond the workout, attendees learned practical ways to build sustainable fitness habits, incorporate short movement breaks into daily routines, stay motivated through accountability, and use body weight exercises at home. The energy throughout the event highlighted the power of community-driven wellness. Participants left feeling motivated, recharged, and connected with others on similar health journeys.

This event was a reminder that movement does not have to be complicated to be effective. Showing up is the first win.

Grocery Tour with RD Andrea: Making Healthy Simple

Participants also had the opportunity to join Registered Dietitian Andrea for an engaging grocery tour experience. This session focused on making nutrition approaches culturally relevant and realistic for everyday life.

During the tour, participants learned how to:

  • Navigate grocery stores with confidence

  • Choose balanced, budget-friendly foods

  • Understand nutrition labels

  • Build simple, nourishing meals

  • Compare products and identify healthier swaps

The grocery tour also emphasized how small changes, such as choosing whole grains, increasing fiber, and balancing carbohydrates with protein, can support better blood sugar control and overall wellness. This session reinforced that healthy eating starts with small, informed choices that fit into everyday life, not perfection.

APRIL FOCUS: SMALL HABITS, LASTING STRENGTH

This month, we continue building momentum by focusing on consistency over perfection. Wellness is not about doing everything at once, but about creating routines that support your life long-term. Throughout April, Sorogi Health will also highlight conversations around:

  • Diabetes awareness

  • Relationship with food

  • Emotional eating and stress

  • Culturally inclusive nutrition

  • Wellness in low-resource communities
